Where I stayed · Andaz Costa Rica Resort at Peninsula Papagayo
Five nights on Hyatt points, a standard room free night with a forest view. It’s a very popular place for award travel, but it keeps going up in points. I think it was 25,000 when I went.

Part two · Tamarindo
A quick stop at Tamarindo, which was nice but not amazing. I rented a surfboard, but all of the lessons showed up right after I got started, and the instructors stand right in the break and yell at people who don’t have someone holding them in place. It wasn’t a lot of fun, and I pulled a muscle in my back.
Part three · Río Celeste
On the way across the country to La Fortuna.
Where I stayed · Tabacón Thermal Resort & Spa
Three nights. I booked it with Hyatt while it was still part of their program, but the stay was after it had gone to Hilton, during the period when they were still honoring the Hyatt bookings. It was nicer than I was expecting.
