El Salvador · July 2026
The city isn't too exciting, but I was curious to see it, since it's been struggling for so long. It really has turned around a lot, though that might be at the expense of some democracy and civil liberties, so I don't want to say I support everything about the current government.
Where I stayed · Hyatt Centric San Salvador
Five nights on World of Hyatt points, with a Suite Upgrade Award. The hotel is in a modern part of town that's very walkable, with shops and restaurants. That part kind of felt like it could be any city anywhere with newly developed commercial areas.
Part one · Downtown
Part two · The beach
The water was very rough.
Part three · Lake Coatepeque
A lot of the access was private, so I just had lunch at a place overlooking the lake.
